Welcome Atlas Corps Fellow Abie Sancaya to PiA!

Abie Sancaya from Atlas Corps Fellow

Princeton in Asia is pleased to announce that Abie Sancaya has joined the Princeton in Asia team as our inaugural Atlas Corps Fellow. Atlas Corps is an international non-profit that connects leading social change organizations with experienced professionals from around the world for yearlong fellowships designed to strengthen organizations, develop global leaders, and foster innovation. In this role, Abie will collaborate closely with the PiA Program Team to conduct comprehensive evaluations and cultivate relationships with potential host organizations in Southeast Asia. He will also contribute to fostering equitable and inclusive practices throughout recruitment, application and selection processes, and support research on legal landscapes and local support systems to support the health, safety and well-being of PiA Fellows. Abie began their fellowship remotely from Indonesia this month and will relocate to Princeton in July to work in-person at the PiA offices.

Abie has years of program management experience and joins PiA after serving as the Program Associate of the Counter-trafficking, Labor Migration, and Social Inclusion Unit at the International Organization for Migration (IOM). During this time, Abie also took on the role of the assigned Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) focal point, demonstrating a deep commitment to promoting safety and well-being. Additionally, Abie has been working on growing his recently-established Indonesian non-profit BRANI, which focuses on combating discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression. Abie holds a Bachelor of Law from Universitas Gadjah Mada in Indonesia and two Master's degrees, one in International Relations from the University of Groningen in The Netherlands, and the second in Theology from Uppsala University in Sweden. Abie is grateful for the opportunity to engage with PiA’s programs and to contribute to its mission, saying “Fellowships are transformative experiences that cultivate personal and professional growth, empowering individuals to reach their fullest potential and make lasting contributions to society”. This Atlas Corps fellowship was made possible by the generous support of Tom Tuttle (PiA Indonesia 1988) and Mila Tuttle.
